Paul specialises in property, immigration and family law but also takes special interest in international investments & finance, trusts (family & charitable), wills, employment and company issues. Paul is also involved in civil and criminal litigations and provides various other legal services tailored to our clients' needs.
When Paul joined Y T Choi Lawyers and Notary Public in 2013, he brought to the team over twenty years of diverse work experience in the areas of international finance and investment, corporate banking, property and legal interpreting in New Zealand, Korea and the United Kingdom. He kicked off his professional career in the department of human resources of a Japanese IT company in 1988, before working for 13 years for the Korea Development Bank, wholly owned by the Korean government. When Paul migrated to New Zealand in 2002, he worked in the area of real estate for 3 years at Harcourts and Barfoot & Thompson. Paul has also worked as an agent for overseas students for many years in co-operation with various schools and English institutions in Auckland and Immigration New Zealand.
As a migrant, Paul has developed an in-depth understanding of both the Kiwi and Korean cultures, and is fluent in English and Korean. He also expects that his two years of study in liaison and advanced legal interpreting (English-Korean) is a merit when providing legal services as a lawyer for the Korean community in Auckland where he has a strong network with diverse groups and individuals.
Paul has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Yonsei University (Seoul), one of the top-ranked universities in Korea. In particular, he majored in national resources management in his Master’s degree with all A’s. He also completed a LLB degree with First Class Honours at the University of Waikato.
